The Long March is a miraculous feat created by the Communist Party of China and the Worker-Peasant Red Army it led—a great epic of revolutionary heroism. The spirit of the Long March—marked by arduous struggle, tenacious perseverance, and courageous unity—embodied along the grueling 25,000-li journey, has become an immortal spiritual monument. Even in today’s society, this spirit remains an inexhaustible source of inspiration and continues to call upon us to learn from it. Looking back on the Long March, Guizhou stands out as the province that saw the longest duration, the greatest distance covered, and the most legendary episodes during the Red Army’s march. It was here that numerous pivotal historical events took place, notably the Zunyi Conference. Other renowned revolutionary activities—including the Liping Conference, the Houchang Conference, the Battle of Lou Shan Pass, the Four Crossings of the Chishui River, and the U-Meng Mountain Whirlwind Campaign—have left an indelible mark. The mountains and rivers of Guizhou bear witness to the Long March’s arduous and extraordinary journey, bearing the weight of both the causes and consequences of China’s historic turning point in the revolution, and leaving behind for us a precious spiritual legacy. The impact of the Red Army’s Long March on Guizhou has been multifaceted and long-lasting, making it worthy of repeated remembrance and reflection.
