On January 13, 2026, the grand commendation conference for model workers and advanced contributors in Guiyang City was held with great ceremony. Yang Hong, Director of the Tunnel and Underground Space Design Division of the Transportation Business Unit of Kan She Co., Ltd., was awarded the honorary title of “Model Worker of Guiyang City” in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of tunnel engineering.

For fourteen years, Yang Hong has been deeply engaged in the frontline of tunnel engineering design and research. He has consistently upheld a rigorous and pragmatic work ethic, vigorously promoted a scientific spirit of daring innovation, and embodied the craftsmanship of the new era through his dedication and perseverance. Facing the severe challenges posed by extremely complex geological conditions—such as fault zones, high geostress, high gas content, and intense karst formations—in the mountainous regions of Guizhou, he has steadily forged ahead on the long journey of tackling technical difficulties in complex geological tunnels. Among the many tunnels he has overseen in design, the Dejiang Tunnel is renowned as “Guizhou’s most challenging highway tunnel”—a project fraught with exceptionally daunting challenges. During construction, the tunnel encountered extreme conditions, with daily water inflow reaching as much as 600,000 cubic meters and water pressure peaking at 2 megapascals. Under his leadership, his team undertook major research projects such as “Research on Design and Construction Control Measures for Waterproofing and Drainage in Long, High-Pressure, Water-Rich Karst Tunnels,” successfully developing a comprehensive technical system for addressing sudden water bursts in high-pressure, water-rich karst tunnels. By overcoming these formidable challenges, Yang Hong and his team have earned widespread recognition within the industry.
The Taotziya Tunnel is hailed as a “geological museum of tunnels,” and is an exceptionally rare, extra-long highway tunnel in China that integrates a wide variety of adverse geological conditions. Relying on technological breakthroughs, Yang Hong and his team developed advanced technologies for the prevention and control of gas in ultra-high-pressure, extremely thick coal seam groups, enabling rapid coal exposure and precise gas management within the tunnel—technologies that helped the project win the Global Road Achievement Award. In addition, he led the design of Guizhou Province’s first highway tunnel exceeding 10,000 meters—the Daloushan Tunnel. The related technologies pioneered by this project have become a national benchmark for extra-long tunnels and were featured in a special report by CCTV. Furthermore, together with his team, he innovatively designed the country’s and the world’s first ultra-large cavern-style data center—the Tencent Qixing Data Center in Gui’an New Area—which boasts energy efficiency at an internationally leading level and was praised by then-Premier Li Keqiang.
To date, Yang Hong has cumulatively led and completed the design of more than 50 highway tunnels. Among the top ten longest highway tunnels in Guizhou Province, he has either led or participated in the design of nine of them. He has won over 20 science and technology awards at various levels and holds 47 patents. He has also published 16 academic papers and co-authored three technical standards. Rooted in frontline work, he selflessly mentors and guides younger colleagues, cultivating a group of highly skilled tunnel engineering professionals. With his dedication and unwavering commitment, he has injected strong momentum into the high-quality development of Guizhou’s transportation sector.
