The 32nd Academic Annual Conference of the Tunnel Engineering Branch of the China Highway Society was held in Zunyi from September 5 to 7. With the theme “Building New Quality Productivity in Tunnels through Green and Smart Technologies,” the conference featured a variety of activities, including the launch of cutting-edge technologies, presentation and exchange of research papers, exhibition displays, and site visits to ongoing projects. The conference’s content covered current hot topics and challenging issues such as new quality productivity, dual-carbon goals, digitalization, construction of long and complex tunnels, as well as tunnel maintenance and operation. Yang Jian, Chief Engineer of Kan She Co., Ltd., led the company’s delegation to attend this conference.
At the opening ceremony of the Tunnel Engineering Branch of the China Highway Society, certificates for papers recommended by the conference and certificates for key promoted achievements in “four new technologies” for highway tunnels were presented. The academic paper titled “Improvement and Practical Application of In-Tunnel Drainage Systems in Guizhou Highway Tunnels,” submitted by Gou Deming, Chief Engineer of the Tunnel and Underground Space Design Institute at the Transportation Business Division of Kanshe Co., Ltd., and Wu Mingfang, Senior Engineer, was selected as a conference-recommended paper. Additionally, the key promoted achievement “Automated Detection and Early Warning Technologies for Structural Safety of Highway Tunnels,” jointly completed by Kanshe Co., Ltd. and Guizhou Hongxin Chuanda Engineering Testing & Consulting Co., Ltd., was recognized as a key promoted achievement under the “four new technologies” category at the conference.
Yang Jian, Chief Engineer of Kan She Co., Ltd., and Wang Xiancong, Deputy Chief Engineer, served as specially invited experts to chair the sub-forum at the conference. Gou Deming, Chief Engineer of the Tunnel and Underground Space Division of the Transportation Business Unit of Kan She Co., Ltd., and Zeng Zhongyi, Senior Engineer, delivered presentations as特邀 guests. Gou Deming shared a report titled “Improvements and Practical Applications of In-Tunnel Drainage Systems in Guizhou Highway Tunnels,” which explored the evolution of drainage systems in Guizhou highway tunnels and the practical effects of various improved tunnel drainage systems. Drawing on the unique challenges posed by carbonate rock formations and coal-bearing strata in Guizhou—such as crystallization-induced blockages—and considering the operational and maintenance needs of drainage systems, Gou Deming proposed a design concept for maintainable drainage systems. Zeng Zhongyi presented a report titled “Design and Practice of Coal Exposure Prevention and Outburst Control in the Expansion and Upgrading of the Chongqing-Zunyi Expressway’s Long Gas-Rich Tunnels.” Using typical high-gas tunnels such as the Daliaoshan Tunnel, Huangjiagou Tunnel, and Songkan Tunnel on the Chongqing-Zunyi Expressway expansion project as case studies, Zeng Zhongyi reported on and exchanged successful experiences and technologies gained during the design and construction of gas-rich tunnels, covering aspects including coal exposure prevention techniques for high-gas coal seams, rapid gas extraction system designs, and numerical simulations for gas extraction.
Guizhou Province now ranks among the top in China in terms of both the mileage and number of highway tunnels. These remarkable achievements are the result of the wisdom and hard work of the surveying and design professionals. Faced with Guizhou’s complex topographical and geological conditions, these professionals have risen to the challenge, overcoming numerous difficulties such as designing high-pressure, water-rich karst tunnels, tunnels prone to severe gas outbursts, deep-buried shaft tunnels, and ultra-long cross-section tunnels. They have also engineered superprojects like the Daloushan Tunnel—the “First Tunnel of Guizhou.” Looking ahead, Kanshe Co., Ltd. will continue to uphold technological innovation, actively engage in the research and development of smart tunnels and green tunnels, and strive to propel tunnel engineering to new heights.
