The Pingluo Expressway Pingtang Super Bridge is accelerating construction.

Recently, a reporter visited the construction site of the Pingtang Super Bridge on the Pingluo Expressway—currently under construction—and witnessed the construction of what is hailed as today’s “tallest and most beautiful” spatial cable-stayed tower, the world’s tallest concrete bridge tower, and a landmark architectural marvel in Guizhou Province.

The reporter observed that the construction site spans the Cao Du River canyon, located deep in the mountains. The site is narrow, and the construction environment is extremely hazardous. Since April of last year... Construction began in June, and thanks to the builders’ round-the-clock efforts, several foundation piles spanning the Grand Canyon are now taking shape. Construction vehicles are bustling back and forth, and the rumble of mountain cannons echoes through the valley.

The deputy chief engineer of Section 13 of the Pingluo Expressway told reporters: “ Pingtang Grand Bridge It adopts the world’s most advanced technology today. The “three-tower, double-cable-stayed combined beam cable-stayed bridge” technology was used in its construction. The central tower’s apex reaches a height of 328 meters above ground—equivalent to a 110-story skyscraper. The bridge’s construction took three and a half years, and upon completion, it will remain the world’s tallest high-speed bridge for several years to come.

The bridge piers, which will be further raised to 328 meters, are currently under construction.

The Pingtang Super Bridge was independently designed by Guizhou Provincial Transportation Planning, Survey & Design Research Institute Co., Ltd. The bridge is 30.2 meters wide and 2,135 meters long, with a design speed of 80 kilometers per hour. The total estimated investment is 1.5 billion yuan. The bridge’s pylons adopt a diamond-shaped spatial tower design; the No. 16 pylon stands 328 meters high, and its height from base to top reaches 336 meters. The construction supervisor told reporters that this height makes it the tallest pylon in Asia and also the tallest pylon of its kind in the world. The bridge is scheduled for completion in 2019, and upon completion, it will add yet another world record to Pingtang’s achievements.

It is understood that the Pingluo Expressway has a total length of 93 kilometers and is planned to include 102 bridges and tunnels—80 bridges and 22 tunnels. Among them are two world-class bridges: the Pingtang Super Bridge and the Daxiao Jing Super Bridge. To boost Pingtang’s tourism industry, the state has specially approved an additional investment of 150 million yuan to build a “scenic viewing area” at the bridgehead in Chayzhou Town, enabling domestic and international tourists visiting Pingtang to share the breathtaking majesty of the “Pingtang Bridge” from the observation platform, thus spreading its beauty across the globe.
