March 30, 2017: The Chishui to Wangmo Expressway in Guizhou Province The entire section from Bailakang to Qianxi has now been completed and opened to traffic, meaning that the Erhai River Super Bridge—designed by our company and located at K47+044 on the Bailakang-Qianxi Expressway—is officially put into service.
The Erhaihe Supermajor Bridge is the only key bridge along the Bailakan-Qianxi section. The left and right halves of the bridge feature the following span arrangements: 3 spans of 40-meter prestressed concrete simply supported beams followed by continuous T-beams (totaling 3×40m); a 102-meter plus 4 spans of 190 meters each, forming a continuous prestressed concrete rigid frame structure; and 8 spans of 40-meter prestressed concrete simply supported beams followed by continuous T-beams. The total length of the bridge on both the left and right halves is 1,420 meters. The tallest main piers of the full bridge reach as high as 175 meters, while the other intermediate main piers stand at 150 meters and 130 meters respectively. The main piers on both banks each measure 102 meters. The maximum height difference among the main piers amounts to 73 meters.


Erhai River Grand Bridge The bridge is located in the mountainous region of Guizhou, where the terrain is highly undulating and the geology is complex. Moreover, the bridge spans the Erhai River valley, which frequently experiences short-duration but intense canyon winds typical of mountainous areas—winds that can easily induce vibrations in the tall piers. To enhance the tall piers’ resistance to vibration and their stability, one of the most effective measures is to increase the structural dimensions of the piers. However, given that this main bridge features a large span, numerous main spans, and long continuous spans, with relatively low side main piers that are situated far from the fixed points of the main bridge’s box girder, the side main piers will be subjected to the most unfavorable stress conditions once the bridge is completed. This contradiction poses significant challenges to the bridge’s design.

The Bailakan to Qianxi Expressway in Guizhou Province is an important component of the “678 Network” outlined in the “Guizhou Provincial Expressway Network Plan.” It forms part of the “Five Vertical” expressway route from Chishui to Wangmo. The total length of the route is 56.123 kilometers, and it is constructed to full-standard expressway specifications—featuring four lanes in each direction, fully grade-separated interchanges, and a closed system. The design speed is 80 kilometers per hour.
The project starts in Panshui Town, Zunyi County, and connects via a hub interchange to the already completed Zunyi-Bijie section of the Hangrui Expressway. It then passes through Yumo Town in Jinsha County, Zhongjian Township and Zhongping Town in Qianxi County, and Yongshen Township, before terminating at Hanjiadian in Qianxi County. From there, it connects via a hub interchange to the Xifeng-Qianxi Expressway.
After the completion and opening to traffic of the Baiqian Expressway, together with the connected expressways, it will link up renowned scenic spots such as the Chishui World Natural Heritage Site, Zhijin Cave, Huangguoshu Waterfall, Baili Rhododendron Scenic Area, and Gecuo River. This has significant importance and a crucial role in further improving the layout of Guizhou’s expressway network, strengthening economic ties and cooperation within the Central Guizhou Economic Zone, boosting the development of regional energy and mineral resources, and promoting industrialization, urbanization, and tourism in the region.
