The research and development and application of a new type of expansion joint device and vibration-damping bearings for mountainous highway bridges have successfully passed the acceptance inspection by the Ministry of Transport.

On December 14, 2017, entrusted by the Science and Technology Department of the Ministry of Transport, the Transportation Science and Technology Management Center of the China Academy of Transportation Sciences hosted a project acceptance meeting at the Jiahua Hotel in Guiyang City for the Ministry of Transport’s enterprise innovation project titled “Research on the Development and Application of New Expansion Joints and Damping Bearings for Mountain Highway Bridges.” After listening to the project team’s report and reviewing the relevant technical documents, the expert panel conducted a series of inquiries and discussions. They unanimously concluded that the project had fully and timely completed all tasks specified in the project proposal, yielded abundant research results, and achieved its intended objectives, and thus agreed to pass the acceptance.

The project “Research on the Development and Application of New Expansion Joints and Seismic Isolation Bearings for Mountainous Highway Bridges” was approved in 2015. It primarily addresses the existing problems encountered in the application of expansion joints and seismic isolation bearings for mountainous bridges. Through systematic research on current bridge expansion joints and seismic isolation bearings, the project has improved and optimized existing products, developing the new GQFGJX modular expansion joint and the ε-type elastoplastic steel damping seismic isolation bearing. In addition, relevant product application guidelines have been prepared and the new products have been implemented in pilot projects.

Currently, the project’s research findings have been applied to several bridges in Guizhou, Shanxi, Shanghai, and Hainan, with excellent results and broad potential for further promotion.
