On December 24, 2020, the China Highway Society organized in Beijing the preliminary review meeting for the 2021 International Bridge Conference (IBC) Bridge Awards—China Bridge Project Nominations. Our company’s Chief Engineer Yang Jian led the Pingtang Bridge Design Team to participate in this award nomination process.
The meeting was chaired by Zhao Junli, Secretary-General of the Bridge and Structural Engineering Branch of the China Highway Society. Nine renowned national experts were invited to conduct a preliminary review of Chinese bridge projects applying for the awards, including Zhang Xigang (China Communications Construction Company Ltd., Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering), Chen Airong (Tongji University, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor), Cui Bing (China Communications Construction Highway Planning & Design Institute Co., Ltd., National Master of Engineering Survey and Design), Qin Dahang (Beijing Municipal Engineering Design Research Institute Co., Ltd., Chief Engineer and Senior Engineer), and Xu Guoping (China Communications Construction Highway Planning & Design Institute Co., Ltd., Deputy General Manager and Senior Engineer). The expert panel listened to presentations on each project and, after consultation, discussion, voting, and summarization, reached the following conclusion: The quality of the submitted materials has significantly improved, reflecting that all applicant units generally attach great importance to the application process and have become well-acquainted with the application requirements. However, the targetedness and compliance of the application preparation still need to be further strengthened. We recommend that the Pingtang Bridge on the Pingtang to Luodian Expressway be nominated for both the 2021 International Bridge Conference (IBC) Gustav Lindenthal Award and the Eugene Figg Award.
On December 26, 2020, Chief Engineer Yang Jian convened relevant personnel from the Bridge Design Institute of the Transportation Division and the Smart Division to lay out the next specific steps for nominating the Pingtang Bridge for the International Bridge Conference (IBC) Bridge Awards. At the meeting, Chief Engineer Yang Jian offered encouragement and set high expectations for all members of the nomination team: The fact that the Pingtang Bridge stood out among many top Chinese bridge projects in this initial domestic review is a well-deserved recognition of everyone’s efforts in the previous phase. He urged all members of the nomination team to cherish this hard-won opportunity, further refine the nomination materials by taking into account the expert feedback from the initial review and highlighting the unique features and strengths of the Pingtang Bridge, so as to better showcase our project on the international stage and strive toward achieving the goal of winning an award at the 2021 International Bridge Conference (IBC).

International Bridge Conference (IBC) Gustav Lindenthal Medal: This award is presented for excellence in bridge engineering standards. The selection criteria primarily focus on a bridge’s practicality, technical sophistication, material innovation, aesthetic design, harmony with the surrounding environment, and public engagement.

International Bridge Conference (IBC) Eugene Figg Award: This award recognizes iconic bridges that demonstrate imagination and innovation.
