On May 13, 2016, in the conference room of the General Engineering Office of the joint-stock company, Deputy General Manager and Chief Engineer Ma Pingjun presided over a training and exchange meeting on “Knowledge Related to the Design of Emergency Escape Lanes.” Attending the meeting were the Deputy Chief Engineers for Route Design and Geology of the joint-stock company; chief engineers from Branch Offices No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3; the Branch Office for Tunnel and Traffic Engineering Design; the Branch Office for Planning and Consulting; the Municipal Engineering Branch Office; as well as the overall route supervisors, route leaders, and route technical personnel.
At the training session, General Manager Ma first provided a thorough and detailed explanation of the relevant content on emergency escape lane design as outlined in the "Detailed Specifications for Highway Route Design." The discussion covered key aspects such as the concept, origin, functions, compositional elements, applicable regulatory requirements, selection of optimal placement locations, design considerations, as well as both successful and unsuccessful design case studies. Subsequently, deputy chief engineers from the Engineering Office’s specialized departments offered supplementary insights. Finally, participants engaged in lively discussions and fruitful exchanges, addressing issues encountered in their daily design work. This helped clarify several controversial points in emergency escape lane design, laying a solid foundation for further improving the design standards in the future and yielding excellent results.
