Introduction to the New Chishui Ramp Toll Station Project

2018 At the end of the year, in order to implement the decision and deployment made at the State Council Executive Meeting to “promote the removal of provincial boundary toll stations on expressways,” Guizhou Provincial Highway Development Co., Ltd. initiated the project to dismantle the Chishui mainline toll station and construct a new ramp toll station. This project was led by our company’s Surveying and Exploration Division, with cooperation from the Second Architectural Institute and the Tunnel & Transportation Institute.

The project is located at the Chishui interchange of the former Renchi Expressway, and includes: 3 Enter 6 Out ETC Lane and 1 Enter 2 Out ETC/MTC Mixed-traffic lane. Currently, the newly constructed Chishui ramp toll station project has made phased progress; the main construction of the toll canopy is now basically complete, and... 11 Moon 20 The debugging work for the dynamic flowing water effect in the nighttime scenery was completed today. The final visual effects of the project have received widespread recognition from the client, the local government, and the public, and have attracted attention and coverage from local media as well as relevant provincial media outlets.

This design breaks away from conventional approaches to highway toll station design, employing innovative design techniques and language to create a distinctive and iconic gateway image that is tailored specifically to the region’s unique characteristics. The toll station’s design concept—“Ten Thousand Scenic Views, Thousand Waterfalls, One Crown of Danxia”—draws inspiration from the geological features of Chishui Danxia Landform. It extracts the rich forms and distinct layered textures of the Danxia landscape as the primary structural elements for the roof canopy, while also incorporating the vibrant colors of Chishui Danxia. Through layered juxtapositions and the dynamic imagery of cascading waterfalls, the design abstractly captures Chishui’s natural elements and translates them into architectural language, thus creating a gateway that is both dignified and grand yet distinctly embodies the essence of Chishui’s landscapes. As the gateway to Chishui City, this toll station design vividly showcases Chishui’s unique character, highlighting its exclusivity and landmark status. Another major highlight of the project is the dynamic water-flow effect in the nighttime scenery. By using changing lights to simulate a cascading waterfall, this feature not only underscores Chishui’s iconic identity as the “City of a Thousand Waterfalls,” but also creates a uniquely stunning vista along the highway—so captivating that local residents have dubbed it the most beautiful “internet-famous toll station.” (Add dynamic video)
