The International Bridge Conference (IBC) is a highly prestigious international academic conference on bridges, organized by the Western Pennsylvania Engineers’ Society in the United States. It enjoys broad influence within the global bridge community. Established in 1988, the IBC Bridge Awards are presented annually and are widely regarded as the “Nobel Prize” of the bridge industry. Currently, the IBC offers seven awards: the George Richardson Award (presented to projects that have achieved outstanding accomplishments in bridge design, construction, and academic research); the Gustav Lindenthal Medal (awarded to projects that have excelled in bridge practicality, technological sophistication, material innovation, aesthetic design, harmony with the surrounding environment, and public engagement); the Eugene Figg Award (honoring iconic bridges characterized by imagination and innovation); the Arthur Hayden Award (recognizing bridges that have demonstrated exceptional achievements in user convenience and non-traditional design); the Abba Lichtenstein Award (given to projects that have showcased remarkable artistry and innovation in the restoration of historic bridges); the Railway Bridge Award (presented to projects that have recently achieved outstanding accomplishments in railway bridge engineering); and the Superstructure Award (honoring projects that have recently demonstrated exceptional achievements in the design and construction of super-large bridges). Since its inception, numerous world-renowned bridges—including the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge in the U.S., the Tsing Ma Bridge in Hong Kong, the Tianxingzhou Bridge in Wuhan, the Sutong Yangtze River Highway Bridge, the Xihoumen Bridge, the Rio-Antirrio Bridge in Greece, and the Millau Viaduct in France—have received IBC Bridge Awards. The recent award received by the Pingtang Bridge is the first international-level award our company has ever won, marking a milestone that places our bridge design capabilities among the world’s leading standards.

Pingtang Bridge is The main span of this cable-stayed bridge features a double-cable-plane steel-concrete composite girder with three towers, each measuring 550 meters in length. The central tower stands at 332 meters high, making it the world’s tallest concrete bridge tower. Construction of the project commenced on April 29, 2016, and the bridge was completed and opened to traffic on December 31, 2019. During the design phase, the bridge’s tower shapes were inspired by local ethnic minority groups’ distinctive costumes and dances, taking into account the structural requirements of the towers themselves. Ultimately, the “skirt-like” tower design was selected, seamlessly integrating with the main girders and cables to create a highly dynamic overall bridge silhouette. In the construction process, new types of construction equipment were developed, and the innovative technique of longitudinally shifting and rotating entire segments of steel girders for suspended assembly was pioneered worldwide. Additionally, the accompanying “Sky Bridge” sightseeing service area has created hundreds of jobs, providing high-quality travel services to passing travelers while also boosting the economic development of the local ethnic minority regions.
