From May 31 to June 1, 2021, Yang Jian, our company’s chief engineer, led representatives from the Transportation Division and the Construction Division to Southwest Jiaotong University (hereinafter referred to as “SWJTU”) for symposiums and exchanges with Vice President He Chuan and his research team, Dean Pu Qianhui of the College of Civil Engineering, and the Department of Bridge Engineering. During these discussions, both sides engaged in in-depth exchanges on topics including the development and utilization of new underground spaces, key technologies for the construction of ultra-large-scale bridges, and industry-academia-research cooperation.
Southwest Jiaotong University is among the first group of universities designated by the state for the construction of world-class disciplines. It boasts two national key disciplines at the first-level and ten national key disciplines at the second-level, and one discipline has been selected for the World-Class Discipline Construction Program. The university’s College of Civil Engineering features a strong faculty and cutting-edge infrastructure. Under the college, there are six departments: Road and Railway Engineering, Bridge Engineering, Underground Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, and Transportation Civil Engineering. The college has established a high-level “123” key research platform system and a “2+1” national experimental teaching platform system. Since the 1990s, the college has received a total of two National Awards for Technological Invention, 25 National Awards for Scientific and Technological Progress, over 100 provincial- and ministerial-level awards, and more than 130 science and technology awards from various domestic academic societies. He Chuan currently serves as a member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of Southwest Jiaotong University. He also holds concurrent positions as Director of the Institute for Science and Technology Development, Director of the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory for Transportation Tunnel Engineering, a leading talent under the National “Ten Thousand Talents Plan,” a national-level candidate for the “New Century Hundred-Thousand-Talent Project,” and an expert who enjoys a special government allowance from the State Council. He has been awarded one First-Class National Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress, three Second-Class National Prizes for Scientific and Technological Progress, and one Second-Class National Prize for Technological Invention.
At the exchange meeting, Yang Jian provided an overview of our company’s development, organizational structure, personnel composition, and R&D investment. Southwest Jiaotong University introduced its research teams, research areas, and notable achievements. During the meeting, our company’s representatives presented briefings on project details for initiatives such as the cavern-based underground data center, the Yongchang Lancang River Super Bridge, and the Lüzhijiang Super Bridge. Both sides engaged in in-depth exchanges and discussions on key technologies related to cavern-based underground data centers and the construction of extra-large bridges, as well as on industry-academia-research cooperation.
After the meeting, accompanied by Vice President He Chuan, we visited the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory for Transportation Tunnel Engineering at Southwest Jiaotong University, where we gained an in-depth understanding of and experienced its research equipment and achievements in the field of underground engineering. Currently, Southwest Jiaotong University has achieved a series of remarkable results and social benefits in the field of underground engineering, providing strong impetus for infrastructure development and enhancing scientific research capabilities in the western region.
