Design of the Northern Section of Huaguan Road in Guiyang City

Project Overview:

The northern section of Huaguan Road in Guiyang City was completed and opened to traffic in December 2018. The road has a total length of 2.1 kilometers, with a total project investment of approximately 2.9 billion yuan. This project is a key initiative for Guiyang City, serving as a rapid north-south transportation link within the city. It also serves as an important access route for the Guizhou Provincial Party Committee and is one of the “Ten Practical Matters” undertaken by Guiyang City in 2018 to benefit the people.

The northern section of Huaguan Road is part of a road reconstruction and expansion project in the central urban area of Guiyang. The project area features complex construction conditions and numerous interfering factors. The road design adheres to the guiding principles of efficiency, economy, aesthetics, convenience, and smart technology. Upon completion, the project will significantly improve travel conditions for residents along the route, enhance the level of road services, and play a crucial role in expanding the city’s development space, optimizing its functional layout, and boosting its overall capacity.

Project Highlights:

Optimize road intersection designs, improve grade-separated pedestrian crossings, and significantly enhance road capacity.
The provincial party committee’s Guanzhou Bridge, Bapa Street, and Jiarun Road intersections will be reconfigured from staggered intersections to a four-way intersection. Additionally, an interchange for GuiGang Second Road and GuiHui Avenue will be constructed, along with four underground pedestrian passages. As a result, the road’s traffic capacity will be significantly enhanced. Once completed, the travel time from the provincial party committee’s Guanzhou Bridge to the Huaxi State Guesthouse will be reduced from the original 45 minutes to just 20 minutes.
Fully consider the constraints and develop a design scheme as well as a traffic management plan for the construction period.
The project is located in the central urban area and involves the renovation and expansion of the former Bapaba Street and Jiarun Road. The design solution skillfully addresses the relationships with facilities such as the Southern Power Grid, military installations, planned rail lines, and municipal cultural relics. A detailed traffic diversion plan has been developed, effectively avoiding large-scale traffic congestion during construction.
In line with the project’s positioning, adopt a road landscape design that features high standards and rich cultural significance.
As an important gateway connecting the Guizhou Provincial Party Committee to the outside world, the design scheme adopts landscape gardening standards with the aim of creating a landmark urban boulevard. By making full use of underutilized spaces such as triangular plots, a themed park called “Memory Garden” has been established. While preserving the municipal-level cultural relic—the Gao Zhang Clan’s Filial Piety and Virtue Archway—this park also provides citizens with an excellent recreational space. During and after construction, numerous mainstream media outlets—including Guizhou TV, Guizhou Daily, and Jingdong Guizhou—have extensively covered Huaguan Road, receiving a highly positive social response.
By adopting a variety of advanced technologies, we will enhance the project’s intelligence level, achieve environmental protection and noise reduction, and effectively ensure traffic safety.
The lighting system uses intelligent, single-lamp control for streetlights, ensuring high efficiency and energy savings. The road surface is paved with rubber-plastic asphalt, which effectively reduces road noise. The lane markings are made of MMA two-component high-visibility markings, providing reliable safety even in rainy or nighttime driving conditions.
